The Class Syllabus

The attached syllabus was prepared to provide students taking Intro to Business and Office Applications, Grade 9 with a statement of grade level standard, topics to be studied, a pacing chart, course materials, the grading policy, useful technology resources, and sample assessments.  Grade 9 is an important year in the life of high school students.  The faculty is committed to helping students learn the skills necessary for academic achievement and success.

Students have learned to format the following

Students completed Microsoft Word by learning two business letter styles

Block Style and Modified Block Style

Microsoft Excel

Students will begin working with Microsoft Excel Spreadsheets.  Knowledge of this softeware program will allow students to organize data, complete calculations, make decisions, graph data and develop professional reports.

Introduction to Business

During this portion of the curriculum students will learn the basics of how to own and operate their own mini business.  Several lesson will be taught on Entrepreneurship. 

Lesson include:Income Statment, Return on Investment, Marketing, Economics of 1 Unit, How to Write a Business Plan.

Students will be using the NFTE (National Foundation for Teaching Entreprenruship Curriculum)

 
Career Fair April 24, 2008 (1:30PM-3:30PM)
Career Fair was a huge success.  Over 25 schools and businesses attended to educate our students on career opportunities in the Pittsburgh Region
 
Marketing a Business

Students will learn the importance of advertising.

The Business Plan

The Business Plan culminates all previous topics of study: What is Entrepreneurship, Opportunity Recognition, Characteristics of the Entrepreneur, Preparing an Income Statement, Calculating profit and loss, Calculate Return on Investment, Inventions,Turning Hobbies into Business, Cost of Operating a Business, Marketing, Promotion and Advertising, Negotiation

Students will complete a business plan for a small business of their interest. Attached is the template for the business plan and notes from the lesson.
