Course Description, 1st Semester: Web Design This course is intended as an introductory course on creating Web pages. The objectives of this course are: to teach the fundamentals of developing Web pages using HTML; to acquaint students with the XHTML guidelines; to show students how to create Web pages suitable for course work, professional purposes, and personal use; to expose students to common Web page formats and functions; to promote curiosity and independent exploration of World Wide Web resources; to develop an exercise-oriented approach that allows students to learn by example; to encourage independent study and help those who are learning how to create Web pages in a distance education environment.
Course Description, 1st Semester: Multimedia This course is intended as an introductory course on multimedia. The objectives of this course are: to teach the fundamentals of multimedia using Microsoft PowerPoint, iPhoto, iMovie, and GarageBand 3; to show students how to create multimedia project s suitable for course work, professional purposes, and personal use; to expose students to common multimedia formats and functions; to promote curiosity and independent exploration of World Wide Web resources; to develop an exercise-oriented approach that allows students to learn by example; to encourage independent study and help those who are learning how to create multimedia concepts in a distance education environment.
Both courses teach students to use their computer technology experience efficiently and effectively while being introduced to the AppleTM computer system and software programs using the iMac computer. Through a series of activities, students will enhance their keyboarding techniques and proficiency. Using various computer application programs students will learn the proper procedures to create professional-looking documents. Students will also be introduced to computer ethics and computer crime. The course will also enable students to master their senior graduation project by using the computer as a presentation tool. Integrating lessons with real-life business applications and cross-curricular learning activities will enable the students to become better prepared for life-long learning and problem solving. The development of independence on the computer while generating desired output is the overall goal of this course. Upon finishing this course, the student will gain experience than can be applied to future classes at a college, a trade school or to a business environment.
Course Description, 2nd Semester: Accounting 1 Glencoe Accounting, First-Year Course is a comprehensive course designed to bring the real world of accounting into the classroom. Students will have the opportunity to use real-world accounting software, real-world source documents, real-world financial statements, and real-world multimedia. The prime objective of this course is to introduce students to the double-entry system of accounting for sole proprietorship, corporate, and partnership forms of business enterprises by using real-world applications and connections. Other important objectives include the following: to help students develop personal and professional skills for school and work; to help students understand the relationship between the manual system of accounting and a computerized system; to help students find success in accounting.
Course Description, 2nd Semester: Money Management This course is intended as an introductory course offering guidance in responsible money management skills. Topics covered in this course include various methods and approaches to saving and investing money for retirement, developing a sound budget, and eliminating debt. Students will also learn about several types of insurance, career planning, and the ins-and-outs of real estate and mortgages. This course is intended to provide a sound foundation for a lifetime of wise financial decision-making.
